Caleb and Me

Just Your Average Thursday

So today was a typical day. Mommy and me did big playing. I took a nap, had lunch. Then Mommy and me did more big playing. When Daddy got home from work, he mowed the lawn with the big noisy machine. Gayla was fascinated watching Daddy walk back and forth and I was happy to sit on top of Gayla and watch, too. It was just your average Thursday!

A Visit from the Insurance Salesman

Today, we got a visit from Mr. Jeff. Mommy and I had been out shopping and got home just in time to put me down for a nap. Mr. Jeff came by to deliver Mommy's life insurance policy. She said that if anything happens to her or Daddy that I will be well cared for. I never need to worry about that. Okay, Mom, whatever! Let's play with my toys. I got a lot of them. See? Including the glass door to the t.v. cabinet. I love to throw it open and watch it bang into stuff. That makes me giggle.

Move Over Fisher Price

People have tried to tell Mommy and Daddy over and over that I don't need toys. I've never needed toys. All I need is someone to supervise me while I explore my wonderful world. Here is my new favorite toy. The curtains.

I am notorious for climbing up on top the plastic tubs under the window. This enables me to look out. I can also sit and play with the curtains. I swing them, scratch at them, yank on them. They're really neat. I love being able to look out the window, too! What a great invention. Curtains!

Love the French

Daddy is not a fan of French anything. He thinks that the country of France and its government have been particularly rude to us so he boycotts a lot of French things. Well, he's going to have to get over that because I have discovered my favorite vegetable is French Cut Green Beans. I will eat fist fulls of them. Mommy has been giving them to me for lunch AND dinner. They are oh so yummy.

So besides green bean-eating let me tell you about my latest favorite things. I love to climb now more than ever. I'm always up on sofas or chairs or the storage tubs that Mommy has around the house. Climbing is so much fun especially when it makes my parents nervous. I'm just so proud of my new found skills that often do a happy dance once I climb up on something.

I love to pick up rocks outside. Anytime we go anywhere I have to stop and pick up a rock from the closest spot and carry it with me. Church is the best place to find great rocks because they have rocks for a parking lot. I'm allowed to have them as long as I "don't bite" them as Mommy often says.

Once I'm unbuckled, I can climb out of my carseat and out of the van all by myself. I'll have to ask my parents to film it sometime. It's pretty easy, at least I make it look easy.

I'm not really talking yet. I'll try to say stuff and I can mimic sounds my parents make. But the best way I communicate is to bring stuff to my parents. If I want fruit snacks, I find any plastic bag and take to them and put it on their lap. If my drink lid is closed, I take my cup to them and hand it to them and they know what to do. If I like something I take it to them and show them. I find all kinds of neat stuff all the time now.

I love my doggies more than ever. I love riding on top of them like I do my toys. They're so good they just sit there and let me climb on top of them as long as I don't bounce on their backs. If I do, they get up slowly so they don't hurt me getting up so I'm just learning to sit.

I'm learning new stuff every day. Keep watch for the next thing I learn. I'm sure it's just around the corner.

A Rose Among the Weeds

I like picking yellow dandelions and I walk over and hand them to my mom. She always is happy when I give her flowers. I also like when the dandelions have turned to seed. I walk around pulling off all the seeds and letting them go into the wind and watching them fall.

Daddy mowed our yard so we don't really have that many but nobody is living next door right now so we visited their yard and boy are there lots until the storm comes. We're supposed to get thunderstorms tonight. Poor Gayla. She hates them.

Next we went Safeway to get some groceries, to Spicknall's farm to get some produce and some flowers for the front yard and then we went home. I fell asleep right away and took a long nap. My medicine makes me really sleepy. While I was asleep, my parents put the groceries away and then did some gardening.

When I woke up Daddy was making steak fajitas and they were super yummy. As you can see in the picture, I love to eat with my foot up. I think it makes the food go down better.

Draft Picnic

I was a busy bee today because I was feeling much better. Daddy called Mommy on the way home and said he had an idea to have a picnic at the park. Mommy said it was getting late and reminded him that they were going to watch the football draft on t.v. So they compromised. Mommy laid a blanket down on the living room floor and Daddy brought home a bucket of chicken and we had a picnic in the living room while we watched the draft. It was a lot of fun. Daddy had a great idea.

Feeling Better

I've been so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Today was supposed to go to the zoo with Caleb but Mommy said we had to stay home...AGAIN. I'm tired of being inside, too.

Tonight I was feeling better. I've been taking my medicine for 24 hrs now and so Mommy got a blanket and we sat outside for a little while this evening after Daddy got home from work. I even got to play with some of my toys outside. I LOVE being outside. It's so fun! I like picking dandelions and playing in the clover. There's just so many neat things to see and do outside. It was good to get outside even for a little while.

Just Miserable

The last couple of days I've been feeling just miserable. I'm coughing all the time and I cry when I do cough because it hurts my throat. When I sneeze a lot of stuff comes out of my nose. It's just not fun being sick. Daddy took me to see Dr. Escabosa today. He said I have a sinus infection and an ear infection and that's what's been bothering me. He gave me some special medicine to take and I hope it works good soon because I'm tired of feeling bad.

A Not So Sunny Sunday

So Mommy and Daddy rushed me out of the house and to a doctor. He gave me some medicine and said that my throat was swollen but that the medicine would help that calm down. I felt a little better after that but I didn't sleep well.

Daddy and I stayed home from church. Mommy said she didn't want me giving the other kids at church my cold. She had to go and do the music so Daddy stayed home with me. We snuggled and cuddled most of the morning. That's how my parents know when I'm really feeling bad because I don't normally sit still that long.
My Gramma and Grampa

Well, I didn't sleep well last night and there was no way I was going to try and nap. I needed sleep but I did NOT want to lay down. Mommy called Gramma and Grampa because they're really good at getting me to go to sleep when I don't want to.

And tried to run daddy overWhen they came over, the dogs were happy to see them, too. Grampa took me for a drive and then took me for a stroller ride where I fell asleep. Then he held me while I slept.

After I awoke, we all went outside and did some big playing even the dogs. Everybody took turns pushing me around in the car Aunt Becky gave me for Christmas. Grampa threw the ball for the dogs to fetch. It was fun even though I just didn't fell like myself.

Then for dinner, Grampa took us all out to Cetrones in Bowie for dinner. I love Cetrones. They have really yummy food there and I like seeing Mr. Sid. Even though I didn't feel well, I had a great day.

I love straws even when I dont feel well

Mommy, Music and Mayhem

Today, I just don't feel good. I wasn't my normal cheery self yesterday with Caleb, either. Mommy and Daddy took me outside to play for a while because I wouldn't nap. I just don't like the way I fee when I lay down. There's all this stuff in my throat and it makes me cough a lot and I don't like it.

It helped that Daddy brought the swing up from the basement. I know I'm a little too big for it now but it felt good to just sit and swing even if one of my parents had to push it for me.

Mommy was practicing music for church tomorrow with her classical guitar. I was very fascinated by the guitar. She let me try it out. I like the guitar but I also like to drum. Mommy says I don't have to decide now because I have a while before I have to pick an instrument to learn. It's going to be hard because I like them all.

Play Date: Friday

Play Buddies
Originally uploaded by jevans1120
Today is Friday and the day that my buddy, Caleb, comes to play. I'm so glad to see him. We play all over the house together. Mornings usually start off in the living room. We play with the toys and watch some Sesame Street. Then around 10:30 I go down for a nap and around 11:00 Caleb goes down for his nap.

About 11:45 Caleb wakes up and Mommy feeds him lunch and then he plays until I get up around 1p.m and I eat lunch. Usually around 2:00 we go outside and play and then Mommy takes us on a big walk around the neighborhood. Today, we even took the doggies with us on the walk.

Then we came back to the living room and we were all tired from our walk. We might just sit in the stroller but it's mental exercise for our brains to go outside and take in all that new information. So we just kind of played quietly until Miss Jessi came to pick Caleb up. Mommy took a bunch of pictures of the two of us playing. I'm sure you'll see those soon. I'm still teething pretty bad and wasn't too smiley today but I'm still awfully cute.

You Just Never Know

Happy Belated Easter
Originally uploaded by jevans1120
Today, Mommy and I went to the grocery store together after my nap. They had a bunch of Easter stuff on clearance so Mommy got some plastic eggs. She said she kind of felt bad that she was so busy on Easter that she never took the time to hide eggs or make me an Easter basket.

Aunt Becky bought me the cute Bunny Basket you see here in this picture. She got it a while ago and Gramma and Grampa kept it and filled it up with fun stuff for me. They gave it to me this past Sunday when we saw them at the Arboretum. I've eaten all the treats they had inside already.

Mommy used some of them to hide in my eggs. She then hid the eggs around the living room. I had fun finding these eggs as I was playing. I'd spy one and bring it to Mommy or Daddy and they'd open it for me. There were so many wonderful treats in those eggs.

I had a good time finding eggs even if it's not Easter anymore. My parents and I do so many fun things. You just never know what we're going to do next.

They had a lot more steps and the house was really skinny. I like the new look. I climbed up and down the stairs most of the time we were there. All my cousins were there and once they saw what I was doing, they joined in. It was so much fun!

Three Generations of EvansesThen after lunch we saw Gramma and Grampa at this big garden place called "The National Arboretum." There were lots of fish, flowers and bees. I didn't really care about the bees though. I liked the fish. Grampa wouldn't let me get in the pond to play with them but he told me that some day he'll teach me to catch that kind. We walked all over the place. Well, Grampa walked and I rode on his shoulders.

I had a big day today. Most days are pretty eventful for me. I'm a go-go girl and I like to go! But as much as I like to go, I love coming home, too. Nothing makes me happier than coming home. Goodnight!

Lazy Saturday

After another busy week, we spent the day at home today. It was a little chilly in the morning. Mommy went to church to practice music for tomorrow's service. I stayed home with Daddy. I took a nice, long 2 hour nap. Then I played with some of my toys on the porch outside while Mommy and Daddy worked on their computers.

Like thisLater on, Daddy put a bike together for me and told me it was from Mom-mom. I couldn't climb on by myself but I knew exactly what to do. I grabbed the handle bars and started turning it. I love sitting on my new bike. Now if I could just reach the pedals...

My first corn breadIn the evening, after I had been particularly whiny, we went out to dinner at a place called, "Famous Dave's." They have yummy BBQ. I got to try my first piece of cornbread. Mommy shared her apples and beef brisket with me. Plus, my parents got me some macaroni and cheese, Daddy's favorite. He was happy that I didn't eat it all because then he got to have some, too. I gotta say, I was pretty good through dinner. Then we went home and I went straight to bed. Another wonderful day in the life of me!

Friday Friend Day

Happy Tears
Originally uploaded by jevans1120

Then Mommy took us for a really long walk through the whole neighborhood. It took like an hour and a half! It was so great to be outside. It's been hot all week and there were a lot of bees. But today it was a little chilly with a gentle breeze in the air. But the flowers were in bloom, the sun was shining bright and I was loving it so much I took my shoes and socks off.

At first I was a little frustrated because I was sitting in the back of our new double stroller and couldn't see around Caleb. I asked Caleb if he'd switch places with me and he said, "sure!" So Mommy switched our places and Caleb was happy sitting in the back for me so I could sit up front. He's such a good friend.

Going for a walk

When we got home we had snack on the porch. Mommy gave us each a string cheese and some fruit snacks. Then she got the bubbles Miss Jessi left for us and blew bubbles for us. Caleb and I both love bubbles.

After we came inside, I laid down for a little because I needed a rest break. Caleb continued to play until his mom came to get him. It was such a great day together! We loved it! I can't wait till he comes back next week.

Check This Out...

One funny thing about me is how I love to sleep with my hand out. I don't like both hands being strapped in. I will struggle and struggle till I get my hand free. (Before you saftey people panic out there, Mom did have my chest buck up much higher. But I worked it down. Yes, she knows she has to make it tighter.)
Got my hand out, Mom!

Left hand out

Wild Wednesday

Today, Mommy took me to church early again. When we went to the nursery, I started to panic. I got real clinging because I needed to convince Mommy not to leave me there again. She kept telling me that she wasn't going anywhere but I didn't believe her.

Then all of the sudden all of these kids kept coming in the door. They were there because their parents were taking English classes. The kids were all very nice to me. It got really crowded in that little room but everybody looked out for me. I had a great time making new friends.

Then we left to go home and I fell asleep because I had such a big morning. Mommy decided to keep driving and took me to a shopping center where we bought Daddy some short-sleeved shirts and then went to a grocery store. Next we went to Ritas! I got banana flavored Italian Ice. It was so yummy. Then we came home and I got to play. I had a big day. I just never know what to expect!

Do You Know What Today Is?

SmileyI bet you're thinking it's Easter right? Well, it is, but what's also important is that I turned 17 months old today! One more month and I'll be a year and a half!?! Can you believe it? Do I get a cake for that, too? I like cake.

This morning, Mommy went to church early again to do music and Daddy got me all dressed up in my Easter dress. Later after church we went to Mom-mom's house to have dinner. I fell asleep in the van on the way there and just slept on Mommy's shoulder for a while once we got there. Then I had yummy lunch. Mom-mom is a great cook.

Once lunch was over, I found a special spot in Mom-mom's kitchen that I liked. It's right by the sliding glass door. I like being able to see outside and play with the tall vertical blinds. They were lots of fun. I also got to pet two different kitty cats! Mom-mom has three cats. I got to meet Jeffery and Maple. They were so soft. They made me smile.

Aunt Julie gave me this really big stuffed lamb. I like to snuggle with it. We had some desert. I ate the lemon part of Mommy's lemon meringue pie. I'm digging lemon flavored stuff lately, just like Daddy. Then it was time to go home. We all had a big day and so we all turned in early.

Aunt Julie took pictures. It usually takes her awhile to get them to us but watch for them. I was darn cute on Easter. Okay, I'm darn cute every day.

Chill Out

Today, Mommy declared a day of rest. We've been travelling everyday this week to do stuff for church. Mommy said she was going to sleep...a lot. She took a bigger nap than I did today. I had a great time spending it with Daddy. I love getting to spend time with him. I don't get to see him as much during the week. He's a lot of fun.

Good Friday and My Buddy

Today is Good Friday and we had a big church service we went to tonight. Caleb came over earlier in the day and played with me. Mommy had this great idea to serve us lunch out on the porch. While she was setting things up outside, Caleb accidentally closed Mommy outside and she had no key to get back inside. Grampa has told her to hide a key in the shed but she's never done it. The only way she could get back in was to break the glass. Now we have a big hole in our door until we can get it fixed. She was so thankful that Caleb didn't get hurt while she was getting back in the house. I was sleeping away in my crib. But she couldn't see where he was. Thankfully he was just playing in the living room. She has now made sure there's a key outside from now on.

Later, we went to church and Mommy did a lot of singing and Daddy did a reading. He was Jesus. Mommy said she thinks it's funny she's married to Jesus. I don't quite get the joke yet but I'm sure I will someday.

I'm wearing the brown one she bought in this picture. It's starting to get warm and I needed some summery clothes anyway. Thanks, Gramma! Today was very busy but very fun. I learned all kinds of new stuff.
