You Haven't Seen Nothing Yet
You might look at this picture and think, "Awe..another cute picture of Elaina smiling." but you'd miss the significance of it. What I want you to see is that I'm only holding on with one hand. I'm getting braver and braver about letting go. It's only a matter of time before I let go altogether.

Striking My Fancy
I'm a girl and because I'm a girl, I change my mind a lot. Sometimes I like a toy, sometimes I hate a toy and sometimes I change my mind. Lately, I haven't liked being in my jumper. Now that I can crawl around on my own, I don't like to be trapped anywhere, not my carseat, not my highchair (unless there's chicken nuggets on it) and certainly not in my jumper. But today, I changed my mind. I had a good time jumping in my jumper. So Mommy and Daddy will just have to keep trying stuff because if I don't like something today, I might like it tomorrow, you just never know.

Super Doubles
Mommy has been learning how to bargain shop and as part of that it means we go where the deals are and sometimes that means going to new stores. Mommy took Daddy and I to a store called "Harris Teeter" in Columbia. They have really neat shopping carts that look like cars and they have steering wheels. I'm just big enough to be able to reach. My froggy sat next to me in the passenger seat.
While Mommy did her shopping, Daddy pushed froggy and I around the store. Lots of people thought I was real cute. I had a log of fun driving the shopping cart. When I get a little bigger they have little shopping carts for little kids and they say "shopper in training" on them. Mommy and I really like this new store and will be back again soon.

Pooped
Since I've gotten back from vacation, I've been really tired. It was fun doing all that new stuff and learning so much about my world but it wore me out!
Today, Mommy and I went to the grocery store but she had to get some coupons cut. While I waited for her to get ready, I took a nap in my swing. I hate sleeping on my back now that I can roll onto my tummy. Here you can see me sleeping in my swing. I'm kind of on my side and all curled up.

Last Supper
Before we left to go home, we had one last meal together. Of course, everyone enjoyed watching me eat. I was getting pretty sleep but I still was able to be social.
Everybody ordered a sub sandwhich and I ate my favorite chicken nuggets. Everyone got a kick out of watching me study this timer on the wall. I like to tilt my head to look at things and I would tilt my head left and right. I guess everybody found it fascinating but then everything I do IS fascinating.

Water Baby
After the beach, I took a good long nap and then we went to the pool. Mommy said we are going home tonight and she wanted me to get in one good swim with my Grampa before we leave. I showed Grampa how I swim after my duck and how I can go underwater. He also showed me how HE can go underwater. I had a lot of fun with my Grampa at the pool.
Beach Baby
Since I was so tired when I visited the beach yesterday, I got to go back and visit the beach for a long time today. Daddy brought my pool so I had a safe and shady place to play. I enjoyed splashing the water and climbing up on Grampa's leg.
Mommy shared some of her lunch with me and I got to try a new food. Mommy gave me grapes! She was afraid I would choke so she bit them in half. She ate half and gave me half. They were yummy.
I really like the ocean. I like watching the waves come in and I'm not afraid of the loud noise. However, I do NOT like the sand. I don't like that the ground sticks to me or moves when I touch it. I fuss if I am on the sand but I love being at the ocean.

All You Can Eat Buffet
Grampa took us all out to eat to a restuarant called "Phillips." Everybody else drove but Grampa and I walked to the restaurant and back. The best part about being so little is that I get to eat free. They don't realize how much food I can pack away. It's their loss. I had tons of chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese and Aunt Becky even shared some of her baked apples with me for dessert. Yummy!
Mini Golf
I had such a big time at the beach that when we got back to the condo, I fell asleep. Mommy and I had to take a quick shower to get the sand off of us but as soon as we were dressed, I nursed and then passed out.
Mommy and Daddy took advantage of my napping and went to play mini-golf. Gramma and Grampa looked after me while they were gone. Mommy told me that she and Daddy had a good time even though they missed me. She said that they tied each other on the first course but Daddy beat the pants off of her on the second course.
I can't wait till I'm big enough to play mini-golf. I'd like to go with them next time. I heard they even saw a bunny rabbit!

My First Visit to the Beach
Today Grampa, Daddy, Mommy and me all took a walk down to the beach. Grampa was so excited to take me to see the ocean. Mommy had fallen asleep but we waited for her to wake up. I was starting to get tired but my nap had to wait. I needed to go down to the beach.
When we got there, I wasn't too sure about it at first. The waves were big and loud and noisy. The water was chilly from all the big storms we've been having. Mommy sat down and let me sit in her lap and then I didn't mind the water coming at me as much anymore.
Once I got used to it, everything was great. I just didn't last too long because I started getting sleepy. I had a fun time though. I hope I get to go back tomorrow and next time I hope we can stay longer.

We Made It
We got in late last night. I was super tired but I was very impressed by my new surroundings. I was also happy to see my Grandparents and Aunt Becky. I had fun crawling around and they had fun watching me.
Today, we got up and I showed everybody how good I can eat now. I had some eggs and banana chunks. Aunt Becky and Gramma went down to the beach. I hung out on the balcony with my Grampa for a little while. I'm still trying to figure out where my crib is but i don't miss it because I have a great place I'm staying.
Mommy called it a "walk in closet" but it's all set up like a mini nursery. I have everything I need. Mommy brought my noise machine, I'm sleeping in my pack-n-play. I have plenty of toys, clothes and diapers. I even have my swimming suits. I can't wait to try out the pool and the beach later! Meanwhile, I'm going to play on this balcony. Grampa has some great looking tennis shoes.

Miserable
The whole ride to the beach tonight, I have felt just miserable and the weather has been just miserable and I have screamed so much that my parents are miserable.Hurricane Bill was close enough that there were lots of thunderstorms the whole trip and tons of rain. We've made a couple of stops to get out and stretch our legs.
The last stop we made, Daddy thought maybe I was teething. Mommy gave me some teething tablets and Tylenol but they weren't helping. So Daddy went into the mini-mart and bought me a Popsicle. As you can see, I enjoyed it immensely.

Ocean City, MD Beach Trip 2009
Gramma and Grampa Evans invited us to go to the beach with them. We left today around 4:00. It took Mommy a lot longer to pack than she thought it would because she didn't realize how much stuff I have.
Caleb's mommy is looking after my dogs while I'm gone. I'm gonna miss them but Mommy and Daddy said the beach is a lot of fun. I hope they have a good time playing with Caleb while I'm gone.
Now that I can crawl around a lot, I don't like to sit in my carseat for long periods of time. Mommy brought my crunchies and a box of cheerios to help keep me occupied on the ride down.

Happy 1st Birthday, Caleb!
My buddy Caleb turned 1 year old today! We got to go to his house and watch him eat his first piece of cake. Mr. David, Caleb's dad, cooked on the grill. I got to play with some of Caleb's toys and I shared one of mine.
I even got to watch Caleb take some of his first steps! He's just beginning to walk on his own. I think it's pretty neat. I've started reaching for things and letting go a little bit. Soon I'll be standing by myself without holding on. Wait and see!

Labor Day Cookout
I don't know what a Labor Day is but Mommy said we were having a cookout for it early this year. Cousin Jordan is going to college this year and so Aunt Debbie wanted to have the cookout today. Mommy and Daddy made potato salad. I got to see Pop-pop and Grandma Mary and Great Grandpa Garrison! I got to meet a bunch of people who I have never seen before.
I had a great time. I got to eat some yummy mac-n-cheese and I played in the pool with Mommy. The water was really cold. Mommy said she could feel my heart racing it was so cold. But as you can see, it didn't slow me down.

I Love to Climb
So now that I have gotten comfortable with crawling, I've decided to explore more possibilities. I have begun climbing on anything I can. I have learned that when I climb up on something, I'm higher and I can see and reach more stuff.
Here I was able to get Mommy's sunglasses because climbing helped me reach them. Now I just gotta find more stuff that Mommy will let me climb on!

Are You Ready For Some Football?
Today after the doctor's appointment, we had a couple of errands to run. We had to take the van in to the tire place because one of our new tires has been leaking. They found a screw in it but they were able to fix it. Well, I hadn't slept all day because of our crazy schedule. Mommy took me over to Wal-mart while they were working on the van. She was hoping that walking around with me in the stroller that I might fall asleep. No dice.
While we were there, Mommy found this great Redskins outfit. Tonight is their first pre-season game against Mommy's team the Ravens. She also found a Raven's outfit but she's saving that for later.
Daddy had a long day at work and had a real bad headache. Mommy gave me a bath tonight and it made Daddy smile when I showed up in the living room for the game wearing his team's colors!

9 Month Visit
I turned 9 months last week but Dr. Darden was on vacation. So today was my 9-month appointment. I weigh 16lbs and I am 28 3/4 in. long. I had a good time visiting Dr. Darden. He lets me hold these special sticks when he's examining me.
He said that many babies my age don't like it when strangers hold them so he was a little nervous about picking me up to get our picture taken. Mommy reassured him I would be fine. He was very impressed at how social I am. As you can see, I had no problems warming up to Dr. Darden.

Next Step Towards Independence
Today I took my next step towards independence. Mommy has been buying and feeding me Gerber Puffs. These are yummy bite-sized treats that melt in your mouth. They're made special for little people like me who don't have teeth yet.
Even though I still don't have teeth, Mommy decided to try giving me Cheerios. I do really good with them. The only problem is, I don't like to eat just one at a time. I grab as many as I can and shove them in all at once. Sometimes I even use two hands. Mommy calls this "double-fisting." I don't really care what she calls it as longs as she keeps those Cheerios coming. They're mmm...good.

When Daddy Comes Marching Home Again...Hurrah!
Whether I do big playing around the house or Mommy and I go out and do stuff, there's always one point in the day that's just crazy fun...when Daddy comes home!
No matter how bad a day I've had, I always have a smile for Daddy. The dogs love it when Daddy comes home, too.

Party Pooper
Today is a big birthday party for a bunch of family. Daddy and Aunt Julie's birthday was July 10th. Aunt Jocie's was yesterday, August 8th. And Uncle Lou and Mr. David's happen at the beginning of September. So we had a one big huge birthday part and just celebrated everybody.
Aunt Lynn had it at her house. She had all kinds of food there. Mr. J.D. cooked steaks on the grill and Mommy and Daddy ate crabs. I'm not allowed to try that kind yet but when nobody was looking, I snuck a piece off the floor. Mommy caught me and told me that it was a shell and wasn't good for me. But I swallowed it before she or Daddy could get to it. If that's what crabs tastes like, I think I'm gonna like that kind.
After "we" ate, Daddy and I laid down on the couch and took a big nap together. The best part about this picture? It's not staged. We really napped like this. One of the best naps I ever had.

Future Gymnast
Mommy and Daddy sometimes daydream about what I might like to do with my time as I get older. They know I'm active and I like the outdoors. I love the pool, too. Maybe I'll do gymnastics? We'll just have to wait and see.
Swinging in the Breeze
I love being outdoors. The swings are the one thing I can do by myself. Now if somebody would give me a push? That would be great. Do you remember how little I was when I first started swinging?

Daddy-Daughter Time
Mommy's working on a project at the house so Daddy took me and we left the house to go play. Daddy drove me down to the park and we went on a walk in our woods. Daddy and I love that path at our park. We get to see all kinds of neat stuff. It has a great stream the runs along the path and when we get to the end, there's the community center.
Well, when we went to the Jazz Concert a couple of days ago, we found a great playground. Daddy let me "slide" down the sliding board a bit and I got to swing on the swings. I can't wait till I'm older and I can run around and do stuff by myself. There's all kinds of big girl things to play on! For now, I enjoy my dad helping me.

Locked Out
Mommy and I have been very busy lately running errands. Mommy has been learning about couponing and storing things up when they're cheap. It means that we do a lot of driving and shopping around to get things like diapers, wipes, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper...you name it. But she's able to get these things for very little money! I like getting out and seeing all kinds of different places and people.
Today we were headed out on another one of our trips. I have a habit of fussing when I get buckled in my carseat. I'm so mobile now, I don't like to sit still. As soon as we get out the door I'm fine but if I'm sitting in the living room buckled in, I kick a fit. Mommy tries to have everything she's going to take with us, gathered up before she puts me in my seat.
Today, I woke from my nap early so she buckled me in and I started to fuss. She figured she'd would set me outside on the porch for a moment while she finished gathering her coupons. When she took me outside to set me down on the porch for some reason she pulled the door shut behind her. Well...the door was locked. She couldn't get back in and she didn't have her cell phone.
We went across the street to Miss Betty's house and she let us use her phone. We couldn't get a hold of anybody so we left messages for Daddy and Grampa. After a little while Grampa came and let us back in the house. I showed him how I eat chicken nuggets. Then Mommy put me down for a nap.
We had a nice time sitting outside on the porch and spent the day pretty much just relaxing and hanging out. After all the running around we've been doing, I think it was good timing because it made us slow down and enjoy the day together. Thankfully it was a nice day outside, one of the best we've had in a long time. Don't tell mom, but I hope we get locked out again soon. I like just chillin' on the porch.

National Night Out
Mommy and Daddy have lived here for three years now and they have never made it to National Night Out. They were very excited about taking me. It's hosted by the police department that Grampa used to work for as a police captain! We got to see the helicopter fly in, there were lots of emergency vehicles there. I like the flashing lights! There was lots of food and kids running around. Mommy even got a free gift card to a grocery store.
They also had a mounted police officer on his horse. He let me pet the horsey. It's such a big horse that I didn't know what it was at first. Once I realized it had eyeballs, I was pretty smiley. I love animals. Mommy said I take after Daddy that way.

A Visit from Caleb
Today, Miss Jessi and Caleb came to my house to play with me. I was in an especially good mood most of the day. I shared all of my toys from him. Mommy and Miss Jessi had a good time catching up and Caleb and I played all afternoon. About 3:00 I started getting pretty tired and I really didn't want to share anymore. Every time he played with something I wanted or took something I had, I got pretty upset and would cry.
Caleb left to go home and take a nap and Mommy gave me some medicine for my teeth and for gas. I felt well enough to take a nap. After Daddy gets home, he's going to drive Mommy and I down to the police station for the National Night Out. I'll post about that later.

Crafty
Today, Mommy wanted to visit Miss Patty's house. She is head of the Women's Ministries at our church. They have a monthly craft day. Today it was from noon till nine. We went over to her house for about an hour and a half. I had a good time playing with some of the toys she has for her grandchildren. Mommy didn't get much crafting done but she had fun watching me explore a new place.

Getting Out on the Town
Daddy talked Mommy into getting out of the house. We went to Annapolis Mall and Daddy got his hair cut. Mommy and I discovered the neat family bathroom in the middle of the mall.
Then we met up with Daddy and went to Noodles to have dinner. I had some of Mommy's Pad Thai. I had egg, chicken and even some noodle. She also shared some of her chicken noodle soup with me. Daddy offered me my first piece of meat from his meat ball. All of the food was super yummy! I wanted more and more.

Love Playing in the Bathroom.
The bathroom has become one of my favorite places to hang out. Mommy says it's also one of the safest because we don't keep any cleaners or anything bad in there.
I am so fast at crawling now, that sometimes, if Mommy takes her eyes off of me for a minute, I disappear. When she came looking for me, she found me sitting outside the bathroom door, banging on it. I was hoping to get in and play with my bath toys.
I was very excited and surprised to see that when she opened the door, Daddy was taking a shower in my bathtub!?! I shared my toys with him so he could learn how great bath-time is with the right bath toys.
